Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy outlines the standards of behaviour expected from everyone who uses Riff. By creating an account, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans.
1. Be genuine
Riff is built on trust. You must use your real identity when verifying your account. Impersonating another person, using fake photos, or misrepresenting your age, location, or credentials is strictly prohibited. Your Trust Score reflects the consistency of your verified information — protect it by being honest.
2. Respect others
Every person on Riff deserves to feel safe. The following behaviours are not tolerated:
Harassment and bullying — threatening, intimidating, shaming, or repeatedly contacting someone who has asked you to stop.
Hate speech — content that promotes violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
Sexual harassment — unsolicited sexual content, explicit messages, or any attempt to pressure another user into sexual conversation or behaviour.
Stalking — monitoring, following, or attempting to contact a user outside the platform after they have ended the connection.
3. Keep it safe
You must not use Riff to:
Share, distribute, or solicit content depicting the exploitation or abuse of minors. We report all such content to the National Crime Agency (NCA) and relevant law enforcement immediately.
Promote or facilitate illegal activities including drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, or terrorism.
Share another user's personal information, photos, or voice messages outside the platform without their explicit consent.
Encourage self-harm, suicide, or dangerous behaviour.
4. No spam or commercial misuse
Riff is for genuine human connection. You must not use the platform to send bulk messages, advertise products or services, recruit for external platforms, promote multi-level marketing schemes, or scrape user data. Automated accounts and bots (other than Riff's own AI companions) are prohibited.
5. Protect the platform
You must not attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or exploit Riff's systems. This includes bypassing safety filters, manipulating the matching algorithm, creating multiple accounts to evade bans, or interfering with other users' experiences through technical means.
6. AI companion interactions
Riff's AI companions are designed for conversation practice, reflection, and engagement. You must not attempt to use AI companions to generate harmful, illegal, or explicit content. Our 7-layer safety system monitors all AI interactions, and attempts to bypass safety controls may result in account suspension.
7. Reporting violations
If you encounter behaviour that violates this policy, please report it immediately through the app or by contacting Admin@riff-app.co.uk. All reports are reviewed within 24 hours. We take every report seriously and will never reveal the identity of the person who reported the issue.
8. Enforcement
First violation — written warning and education about the specific policy breached.
Second violation — temporary account suspension (7-30 days depending on severity).
Severe or repeated violations — permanent account ban with no refund of subscription fees.
Criminal behaviour — immediate ban and referral to law enforcement.
9. Appeals
If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you may appeal by emailing Admin@riff-app.co.uk within 14 days of the action. Appeals are reviewed by a senior team member not involved in the original decision. We aim to respond to all appeals within 7 working days.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Riff after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
